RCBC Leasing mobilizes volunteers for 100,000-tree initiative

RCBC Leasing and Finance Corp. (RLFC), a unit of Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., has joined Metro Manila’s 100,000-tree planting initiative as part of its shift toward green financing.

RLFC mobilized 23 employee-volunteers and contributed P100,000 worth of trees in-kind for the kickoff, planting bamboo along Roxas Boulevard. The effort translates to about 750 to 1,000 bamboo stalks reinforcing the soil in the area.

“The role of private institutions is crucial to the overall health of the economy and the wellbeing of the nation. In an era where environmental stability directly impacts business continuity, our shared investment creates the necessary catalyst for systemic resilience,” RLFC president and CEO Jayson Mendoza said.

“By supporting this milestone, we demonstrate that our legacy as ‘Partners Through Generations’ extends beyond traditional financial products and into tangible, community-based sustainability. We aren’t just financing the future, we are actively investing in the environmental resilience of the landscapes where our clients live and work,” he added.

The initiative is part of RLFC’s updated business strategy, which places environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations at the center of lending and investment decisions.

The company said it will institutionalize community-driven environmental projects as a recurring component of its operations.

Financial institutions in the Philippines are under increasing pressure to align portfolios with sustainability goals as the country faces rising climate-related risks.

RLFC’s commitment mirrors that of parent company RCBC, which in December 2020 became the first Philippine bank to publicly commit to ending financing for new coal power plants.
