RCBC’s story started in 1960, when Alfonso T. Yuchengco founded the Rizal Development Bank to give more Filipinos access to financial services. With only 15 employees working from a one-room office along Ayala Avenue, the goal was simple yet powerful: bring banking closer to the people. Just three years later, it became the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation, one of the country’s first commercial banks outside Manila. By 1963, it had ?41.3 million in assets, ?18.2 million in deposits, and was already turning a profit, a remarkable feat for a young bank at the time.
RCBC stayed resilient through some of the country’s most challenging decades: the liquidity crisis of the 1970s, the political turbulence of the 1980s, and the Asian financial crisis of the 1990s. Its commitment to stability and service never wavered. Today, RCBC Plaza stands proudly in Makati as a symbol of that enduring strength.
