RCBC rolls out Google Pay for credit cardholders

MANILA, Philippines — Yuchengco-led Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) has enabled Google Pay for its Mastercard and Visa credit cardholders, offering faster and more secure contactless payments as the service formally launches in the Philippines.

The bank said customers could now add their RCBC credit cards to Google Wallet and begin using Google Pay for tap-to-pay transactions at any contactless terminal in the country and overseas.

The service also supports quicker checkouts on e-commerce sites and apps once card details are saved in the platform.

“The launch of RCBC Credit Cards on Google Pay is a significant step forward in our mission to enhance the digital payment experience for our credit cardholders,” RCBC president and CEO Reginaldo Anthony Cariaso said.

“This integration offers unparalleled convenience, security and the benefit of exclusive rewards, ensuring our customers can transact more easily in the rapidly growing digital space,” Cariaso added.

Google Philippines country manager Prep Palacios said the partnership highlights Google’s “enduring commitment to accelerating financial inclusion and fueling the next chapter of the Philippines’ dynamic digital economy.”

RCBC is among the first local banks to activate Google Pay for both Mastercard and Visa credit cards following the platform’s debut in the country this week.

Google Pay formally debuted in the Philippines this week, marking a new milestone in the country’s shift toward wider adoption of digital and contactless payments.

The launch was first reported by The STAR, following months of coordination among Google, regulators and major card issuers.

Several banks have activated support across Mastercard and Visa, allowing millions of Filipino cardholders to add their cards to Google Wallet.

For Mastercard, issuer support includes China Banking Corp., East West Banking Corp., GCash (Mastercard debit), RCBC and Zed Financial PH.

For Visa, supported issuers include China Bank, EastWest Bank, GoTyme Bank, Maya Bank, RCBC, Union Bank of the Philippines and Wise Pilipinas for Visa prepaid cards.

With more issuers to go live in the coming months, Google Pay is expected to further strengthen the growing competition in the mobile wallet and digital card payments space.
